What I'm talking about
I stuffed my face and chewed with my mouth wide open to talk, "so we gotta find some Japanese girls, you know what I'm saying?" I said while looking around where we were eating outside. The others agreed. I had spent what seemed like all day skateboarding and giving money to random people on the street and I needed, more than anything, some hot Japanese girls, but in my city? I thought about how if I were in Tokyo it'd be a lot easier and how here it's a different story. I'd just need one I thought to myself and as if my prayers had been answered I saw, at that very moment, two Japanese girls in the distance walking towards my table. I, 19 years old, knew what Japanese girls looked like since I was 12, thanks to years of masturbating to hentai and internet use during the 90s. I hadn't been to Tokyo yet but I knew when I saw the girls that they were Japanese and from Tokyo. One of the girls' body was so perfect, her hair, everything about her was so fresh and she looked like she had a lot of money. I knew that I needed to talk to her. "Dude, take out the camera, someone take out the camera." I said franticly. Before the Japanese girls passed I called for them to come over and talk to me. The two Japanese girls approached my table, smiled and I introduced myself in English. "My, name, is, Josh" I said slowly. "My name is Maiko Tanaka and this Chika," the girls said while giggling. I looked at Maiko since she was the hotter of the two and asked if she was a student. "Yes," she replied cheerfully. "How old are you?" I asked. "Twenty-one years." She said while giggling. "Oh do you drink a lot?" I asked. "Not so much, maybe, a little" she said and I was instantly in love with this girl. "So hey, can I call you sometime? Do you want to go out with me?" I asked Maiko while smiling. "Eeeeh?" Maiko looked at her friend and they both had these huge smiles on their faces. "Chotto matte." Maiko said while taking out a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote her phone number down and gave it to me. I then held the phone number in my hand while she and Chika giggled to each other. Chika then took out a piece of paper, wrote down her phone number and gave it to me too. I then examined both phone numbers and realized they were different, "Oh, you two aren't roommates?" I asked. "Yes, different room." Maiko explained. I then was all like "so I'll call you sometime? Would you want to party this weekend?" I asked. "This weekend," Chika said and asked Maiko what it meant in Japanese. "Yes, call me please." Maiko said. I nodded.
"This is great. I can't wait until the weekend. I wonder what is going to happen." I said to everyone I was with after the Japanese girls had walked away. After eating we got up from our table and continued filming each other skateboarding. Unfortunately, about fifteen minutes into our filming I noticed a cop car in the distance headed towards us. I told everyone to get off their skateboards and to give me the video camera. I watched as the patrol car sped up to where we were and then the officer as he parked and slothed his way over. I had an idea, I wasn't going to let a ticket ruin the night and so I took the video camera and hit rewind while watching the cop continue to walk towards us, now as he talked into his shoulder piece. "Good evening, I got a report of skateboarders in the area." He explained. "Yeah, I saw about seven skaters over here including us," I then pointed to our table with the pizza box still on it, "we were just having dinner here. We weren't skating. I even have footage to prove it." The officer looked confused, "footage to prove you weren't skating?" He asked. "I was filmed speaking Japanese to people, it helps me study." , "Oh, you all wernt even skating?" He asked. "Yeah like I know we have skateboards but look," I said while taking my finger off the rewind and giving him the video camera. "I don't know, it looks like you are giving money to people." He said while laughing at what he saw through the viewfinder. "If you keep watching, you'll see me speaking Japanese." The cop then watched the footage for about five minutes. "Ok, I see you all have skateboards though and I want to remind you all that it's prohibited to skate here." The officer explained after having had watched part of the tape. "We know, that's why we wouldn't skate here," I reassured the officer. He then nodded, "Ok, well good luck on your video, I got to go find the crooks, did you see which way the other skaters went?" The officer asked. I then shrugged, "you know skaters, they go through back alleys and stuff." He nodded, turned around and began to sluggishly make his way back to his patrol car. "That was so cool." One person said while the others agreed. "Yeah, how did you even think of doing that?" Another asked. "I don't know." I said. "What do you want to do now Josh?" One asked. "I want to call this Japanese girl, but like I got to play it out, you know what I'm saying?" I looked around, "let's go to the Dream and get some of those really good cookies," I explained and we all picked up our skateboards, threw our trash away and left.
When we arrived at the Dream, right when we were opening the door, some girls were leaving. "Hey, remember us?" One of the girls asked. I looked at them. "Aren't you the girls..." I asked before being interrupted. "Yeah you gave us free money," they all explained while smiling. "So how's it going?" The girls asked me. "Me? I'm having a great night. I got some really good looking Japanese girl's phone number when we were hanging out by West. Check it out." I said while digging in my pockets for Maiko's phone number as if I needed proof. After finding it I handed it to the girls. "This is my roomate!" One of the girls exclaimed. "Oh for real?" I asked. "Yeah I'm her roomate over at West." She continued. "For real? Would you want to put in a good word for me?" I asked while smiling. "Of course! I love you already, so tonight I'll tell her how great you are and how she should be your girlfriend." She said. "Thanks, I am excited to see her this weekend and maybe I'll see you around sometime?" I asked Maiko's roommate. "You'll probably be seeing me a lot more than that, I'm her roomate, remember?" She said while several of us laughed over thoughts of sex. "Josh, right?" Maiko's roommate asked as the girls proceeded to leave. "Yeah." I said while waving. After the girls left we got a ton of fresh baked cookies, drinks, talked about the skate footage and I wondered if life could get any better.
Days later, the weekend, I called Maiko and asked her if she wanted to party with me. "Josh! Yes. Let's drink tonight." She said with even more enthusiasm than before. "What do you want to drink? Some osake?" I asked her. "Please. With you." She said. After her and I agreed on a time for me to meet her, we said our goodbyes and I hung up the phone. I then called one of my good friends, Aaron, and asked him to pick me up a bottle of Absolute citron and one of Bacardi Le'mon. I then hung up the phone, waited about twenty minutes, got a knock on my door and there Aaron was with the bottles all bagged up. "Thanks." I said. He nodded, "it's all good, here is the receipt." I looked it over, gave him two twenties, knuckles and asked him to wait for a few. I then went back into my house and tossed the two bottles in my Shorty's Chad Muska backpack, I then left my house and we both cruised over to Maiko's dorm. "So who is this girl now?" He asked while driving. "Just this one Japanese slut I met the other night," I said while laughing. "You fuck her yet?" Aaron asked. "Nah, but watch tonight I'll fuck her and film..." I said before realizing I didn't have my video camera. "Wait, I left my video camera back at the house." I said to myself. "You want me to turn around dawg?" He asked. "Nah, you know what? It's all good. I'm going to have more than one night with this Japanese slut!" I said while we both hollered at the windshield over what I said.
We soon after arrived at Maiko's dorm, I got out of my friend's car, walked over, Maiko was waiting by the door, she opened it and asked me what kind of alcohol I brought with me. I opened my backpack and pulled out the two bottles. She then looked at them and asked, "Vodka?" I nodded and said, "If it's too strong we could go to the store." She smiled and said she'd buy beer for us instead. After putting my stuff in her room we left her dorm, then walked to a nearby convenience store that sold alcohol. I entered the store with her and we walked through the beer aisle. "So what do you want? One of these?" I asked while she walked over and looked at what I was holding, "Ord Engrish?" She asked while I began to laugh. "Yeah, it's my favorite. Do they have 40s in Tokyo?" She shook her head, "I don't know 40. It is old?" I shook my head and was all looking for a beer we could both agree on. "Do you want to just get a six pack of Corona?" I asked while pointing to it behind the glass of the cooler. She then walked over and looked at it. "Yes. I like that." And she took it out, we both went to the counter, she took out her passport, her purse, paid for it and we left the store together.
While walking back to her dorm I told Maiko that she looked like Ayumi Hamasaki. "Do you like her?" She asked. "Nah, you just remind me of her for some reason." I added. "Many Japanese girl want to be, like her," Maiko Tanaka said. "Oh, you know I was photo model before, maybe like, 18 years old." She continued to tell me. "But it was difficult, always, more thin, more thin, don't eat, don't eat and lots of girls can't do so difficult." She continued telling me and I nodded while we made our way to the front of her dorm. "But you are really really thin," I made a point of saying. "Yes, but Japan, everything in Japan must be perfect, always, America, it's not like Japan." She said while looking at me as if she was relieved to be here. "I know." I said while smiling down at her.
Once inside her dorm she stopped as if she remembered something. "I forgot it is prohibited to drink inside here. Can we drink outside?" She asked me. I then thought back to how warm it was outside and how the weather was next to perfect for an evening of drinking under the stars. I also thought about how right next to her dorm there was a small grassy field, used for playing soccer and other recreational sports, that we could drink at, which was also perfectly situated next to tennis courts which had flood lights that illuminated the grassy field, between it and Maiko's dorm, beautifully at night. I explained to her how we could just go sit out there, so Maiko went, grabbed a blanket, we then left her dorm, crossed the street, got on to the grassy field which now had the lights from the tennis courts giving it an ample amount of light. As the two of us held hands we walked towards the center of the field to find the perfect spot to sit. After finding a spot together we layed out our blanket, set down the six pack of Corona, I took a bottle, Maiko realized we didn't have a bottle opener, I smiled and with my Osiris scout belt's bottle opener opened her Corona and gave it to her. "Oh, thank you Josh!" She said. I smiled "Yeah, let's start drinking." I said while fantasizing about having sex with Maiko.
After drinking our first beers I took two more, opened them, handed one to Maiko, who, in all her innocence, bowed her head to thank me. Though I was distracted and not by her innocence. I looked around the field as one of the strangest, yet familiar, noises, surrounded me. I continued to look around to my left and right up until my attention directed itself on Maiko and up until she said, "Josh, look up."
At this time I didn't really know what I should expect to see, maybe bats? Before looking up I remembered some seasons ago seeing bats flying around the flood lights picking off insects, so that's what I figured I was about to see but it wasn't bats and there, the moment I looked up, I saw it. I saw what Maiko was talking about. It, whatever it is was close enough to us that we could both get a good look at it, I continued to sit, confused, as I continued looking up at the sky at this creature. I guesstimated it was about the size of my dad's old sports car (which, not to mention was a piece of junk that he bought after him and my mom divorced,) if not larger. It looked like a bird but it's wings clearly didn't have any feathers on them whatsoever. It's wings were the same color as it's body, a shimmering gray color and the lights from the tennis courts made it easy for us to see it as it circled the field. I continued to examine it, it wasn't close enough to see if it had eyes or a mouth. I looked at what was obviously a tail, though what was weird about this tail was that it looked exactly like a dolphin's tail and it too had no kind of feathers. The creature's body was in fact, much like a dolphin, or a whale but with featherless wings which it seemed to be gliding with in circles. I noticed that it only flapped it's wings one or two times during something like the first thirty seconds I watched it and I was amazed, until that is, I realized it was circling us.
I began to get worried. I got up from my sitting position and onto my feet. The tips of my fingers rested on our blanket like a sprinter on a track. "Josh, what is that?" Maiko asked curiously. I continued to look up at it in wait of a swoop. "I don't know." I said nervously. "Josh, is that a bird?" She asked. "I don't know!' I explained. "Josh, is that something in America? American bird?" Maiko asked while now sounding worried herself. At that time I lost my mind, this wasn't a joke, this was real, it was really circling us and letting of it's call? Was it calling out to us?
We continued to watch it as it flapped it's wings several times and then glide, again in circles, always in circles directly above us. Seconds later I noticed seemingly misplaced clouds in the otherwise clear night's sky, the batch of clouds all formed together a little ways away from us. After about a minute more of watching it circle us, after it had continued sending down it's call, the creature broke circle and glided directly into the clouds. It was weird because once it went into the clouds the noise it had been making was completely muted and it didn't leave through the other side (of the clouds.)
Maiko and I let off loud sighs of relief, similar to being under water and coming up for air. "That's not something you see everyday." I said nervously and tried to smile to ease Maiko's thoughts.
"If I would have had my video camera... I could have made millions of dollars off this footage." I mumbled quietly to myself. Maiko continued to ask me what it was and if I had seen anything like it before. I shook my head. All of the sudden it's call surrounded me and the creature returned! It made it's way back towards us and then continued to circle us again! I reached for our bottles, got the six pack, Maiko Tanaka followed by picking up the blanket we had both, as soon as the creature returned got off of and we ran back to her dorm.
When we got back to her dorm, inside, we were both excited and in good spirits. Maiko smiled and said her roommate was gone for the weekend.
